P01 · Practicar la habilidad

Your class is collecting stories about a surprising act of kindness. You may invent personal details; keep any facts supplied in this task.

Write a story of 120–150 words beginning: “I was sure I had missed the last bus.” Include an unexpected helper and a clear ending.

Respuesta y explicación
I was sure I had missed the last bus. The street was empty, and the timetable seemed to confirm my mistake. I sat on the bench and wondered how to get home. Then a woman carrying a violin case stopped beside me. She asked why I looked worried. When I explained, she laughed kindly and pointed to a small notice below the timetable. The bus now left from the next street because of road repairs. We hurried there together and arrived just as the driver opened the doors. On the journey, I discovered that she played in the orchestra at the concert I had just attended. I thanked her for the music and for finding my bus. She said both were better when shared. I arrived home with a much happier story than I had expected.

“I was sure I had missed the last bus.” → “When I explained”. Lengua: “On the journey, I discovered that she played in the orchestra at the concert I had just attended.”

A youth magazine wants stories about a small mistake that led to something positive. You may invent personal details; keep any facts supplied in this task.

Write 120–150 words. Begin with a mistaken meeting place, show how the character responds, and end with an unexpected benefit.

Respuesta y explicación
I arrived at the sports hall ten minutes early, proud that I had remembered everything. My badminton racket was in my bag, and I was wearing my new trainers. However, the hall was full of people carrying boxes of books. I had read my friend’s message too quickly and come to the old hall instead of the new one. Before I could leave, an elderly volunteer asked if I could move a heavy box. I helped her, then stayed for a few more minutes. Inside the box, I found a book about an artist I admired. The volunteer said I could buy it for a small donation. When I finally reached badminton, my friend laughed at my mistake. I was late, but I had helped someone and found a wonderful book.

“I had read my friend’s message too quickly” → “When I finally reached badminton”. Lengua: “I had read my friend’s message too quickly and come to the old hall instead of the new one.”

Your English club wants a story in which an ordinary object becomes important. You may invent personal details; keep any facts supplied in this task.

Write 120–150 words about a borrowed umbrella. Include a problem, a decision, and an ending that explains why the umbrella mattered.

Respuesta y explicación
Rain began just as I left the library. A student beside the door offered to share her umbrella as far as the station. We talked while we walked, and I mentioned that I was nervous about joining a new college the following week. She listened carefully and described her own difficult first day. At the station, my train was already waiting. She pushed the umbrella into my hand and told me to bring it back sometime. I did not know how to find her again, so I left a note at the library desk. A few days later, she called. We met for coffee, and she offered to show me around the college, where she was already studying. The umbrella had kept me dry, but her kindness made a much bigger difference.

“I did not know how to find her again” → “A few days later,”. Lengua: “A few days later, she called.”

A school competition asks for a story about learning to admit a mistake. You may invent personal details; keep any facts supplied in this task.

Write 120–150 words. Include a damaged object, the character’s worry, an honest conversation, and what changes afterwards.

Respuesta y explicación
The crash sounded much louder than I expected. My brother’s model boat lay on the floor, and one of its tiny wooden rails had broken. I had borrowed it to show a friend without asking permission. For a moment, I considered putting it back on the shelf and saying nothing. Instead, I waited by the door until my brother came home. I explained exactly what had happened and offered to pay for the repair. He was upset, but he was more worried that I might have hidden the damage. We spent the evening finding a suitable piece of wood and fixing the rail together. Afterwards, we agreed to ask before borrowing each other’s things. The boat looked almost the same, but the way we treated each other had changed.

“For a moment,” → “Instead,”. Lengua: “I had borrowed it to show a friend without asking permission.”
