Hillview Book Room needs summer volunteers to help prepare donated books for sale. Money from the sale will pay for reading sessions for local children. We are not collecting money to build a new library. Our present room is small, but we can continue using it next year.

Volunteers must be at least sixteen. You do not need experience in a bookshop. You do need to arrive on time and be happy working with other people. The work includes checking books for damage, putting them into groups and writing prices on removable labels. A supervisor chooses the prices, so volunteers do not need to know the value of old books.

There are morning sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July to August. Each session lasts three hours. Please choose one regular morning a week rather than coming on different days each week. If you can only help once, there is a separate event to set up the sale in September.

We provide tea and a short break. Bring your own snack and wear closed shoes because boxes can be heavy. You will not be asked to lift a box on your own. Two people move each full box together.

Email us by 20 June with your name, age and available morning. We will invite suitable applicants to a short group introduction before their first working session. This is a chance to ask questions and try the labelling task.
